Michelle Eubanks, UNA, at meubanks@xfmlsp.com, 256-606-2033 or 256-765-4392 FLORENCE, AL - The History degree on the University of North Alabama campus has been ranked 10th among the most accelerated to completion at four year colleges and universities across the United States. The ranking was released by Bachelor's Degree Center, a free guide to on-campus and online bachelor's degree programs in all disciplines. "The Department of History provides a program staffed by outstanding and dedicated faculty with a wide range of courses and individual attention," said Dr. Sara Lynn Baird, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. "Many of our students are seeking programs that offer skill development in areas such as writing, critical thinking, creativity, analytical reasoning, and innovation, which are hallmarks of curricula in history. Especially for non-traditional students who may be working or raising a family, the ability to complete their degree quickly is critically important." The History program at UNA allows its students to complete their degree while still providing the benefits of outstanding faculty, varied course options, and individual attention, Baird said. Students sometimes take as many as five to six years to complete their degree, so this ranking is acknowledgement of the initiative that encourages students to finish in four years, instead. "At UNA, we provide pathways for students to accelerate their paths to graduation," said Dr. Amber Paulk, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Dean of Graduate and Online Education. "Our Finish in Four Initiative includes banded tuition, which charges students a flat rate for 15-plus credit hours and reduces the cost of their education. UNA also offers a rich catalog of summer course offerings, winter session, a compressed academic term between fall and spring terms, and 8-week general education courses to help students stay on track to graduate in four years or less."
